Shadows Of Maize
Once upon a time, in a faraway place full of special traditions, there was a man who went on a dangerous adventure to protect his culture. He had a small garden that showed how strong his people were, and the most important thing he grew was maize.
Everyone heard about the man’s amazing maize harvest, and four talented workers wanted to help him. They were excited and hopeful as they went to the man’s garden. But little did they know, this job would test their bravery and show who they really were.
When the sun was high in the sky, the man left his precious maize with these workers and promised to pay them at the end of the day. The four workers worked hard, using their skilled hands to pick through the withered maize stalks. They felt tired and wanted a break.
But one of the workers, who was secretly unhappy, decided to stop working. He planned to be sneaky and trick the others. He filled his bag with more maize than he was supposed to, hiding his bad intentions behind a fake smile.
When the man came back, he immediately saw through the worker’s tricks. He could tell that something wasn’t right. Before they reached the storage place, he stopped them and spoke firmly. “That’s enough, my friends,” he said with a hidden message in his words. “Take the maize home for your payment.”
The workers were confused, but three of them understood the important lesson the man was teaching them. They were grateful for what they had received and happily took their full bags of maize back to their homes. Their tired faces turned into excited smiles.
But the tricky fourth worker, who only cared about money and things, wanted more. He boldly demanded extra payment from the man, acting greedy and entitled. But the man who grew the maize was wiser than that. He smiled gently and told the worker the truth. “I don’t have any money to give you,” he confessed. “But you can keep the maize you’ve harvested as your payment.”
The tricky worker felt really bad when he realized what he had done. His bad plan had failed, and he had to face the consequences. In a final act of rebellion, he threw away the maize he had taken and walked away feeling empty-handed and burdened by his choices.
And so, the story of the four workers spread through the years, teaching everyone about the importance of being honest, grateful, and working together. It showed that true happiness comes from who you are inside, not from having lots of things. The story of “Shadows of Maize” became a symbol of the power of stories and how they can keep a culture alive, even when other cultures try to take over.
